He also explained defensive formations and terminology, such as trips closed and nubs, to Lee Norman-Lester, providing insights into how these formations impact defensive strategies and coverage decisions. The discussion also covered different types of cover zero defenses, including variations with additional zone players. Brady emphasized the importance of studying film to understand the various defensive strategies and techniques used in cover zero situations. Additionally, Coach Brady explained the concept of cover three defenses and the responsibilities of players in this defensive scheme.

The quarterback gets the play from the sideline and communicates the play along with the snap count to his teammates. The QB then approaches the line of scrimmage and positions himself behind center while surveying the field. When he surveys the field he collects snapshots of information about the contour of the defensive alignment and makes certain his teammates are aligned correctly. He looks for quick indicators to make his best pre-snap assessment of what the defense is playing. At the snap he then either keys an area or a specific defender to execute his pass or run responsibility. This entire process can fill up the pages of an entire book or it can be synthesized to its simplest form such as throw to open grass or read 1,2 to 3.
